Drama Script
Scene 1: Introduction to Sophie, Parents Killed
Sophie enters from Stage Left and stands at extreme right of stage.
Father and Mother enter at the same time with Sophie. But they stay in the middle of the stage with the set..The stage is dark, spotlight on Sophie.
Sophie: (slowly looks up at audience) Hello. My name is Sophie. I am seven years old.(pause)I live in [name] orphanage.(pause)My parents died 2 years ago.
(Continues looking at audience.
The light on her dims a bit.
The second half of the stage lights up, brighter than the one on Sophie.)
Father is reading a newspaper.
Mother is cooking. She carries a stack of dishes to a table.
Mother: Come on, Sophie. It’s time for dinner. (happy smile on her face)
Father puts down newspaper and starts to eat.
Father and Mother freeze in eating and putting dish down action respectively.
Spotlight back onto Sophie, while lights at the FATHER-MOTHER side dims.
Sophie: They died. Because someone from the mafia killed them.
3 people walk in from the left of stage. They are RHM and 2 Followers.
Spotlight on them and light dims from Sophie.
Follower 1: This is the place?
RHM: Positive.
Both followers stand on either side of the invisible door, holding revolvers.
They look to RHM for command to take action.
RHM nods.
Follower 1 kicks down the invisible door.
RHM enters the house first, puts his hand in the pockets, gives a smart look.
Father and Mother unfreeze.
RHM motions for 2 followers to kill them (snap fingers etc.)
Mother screams and stops.
Father tries to protect her by placing his body in front of her.
Follower 1 shoots Father.
Father falls to the ground.
Mother looks at Sophie’s bedroom door at the corner of her eye, worried.
Follower 2 grabs Mother (by the hair?) and shows her to RHM.
RHM: I am not to blame. You both made a choice and there’s no going back on it. (tell Follower 2) Get rid of her, make it quick.
Follower 2 shoots Mother, at least 2-3 shots.
At this time, RHM’s back is to the two parents.
Now, both of them lie on the floor, motionless.
RHM: Gentlemen, let’s get a move on.
RHM and 2 Followers exit.
Father and Mother remain lying there.
Light back to Sophie. Spotlight.
Sophie: I saw everything. I hid in the bedroom.
(pause)
They didn’t see me.
(pause)
But I know how they look like.
(pause)
And I will find them one day.
Sophie smiles ominously at the audience.
Everyone offstage.
Scene 2: Sophie’s Abilities Shown
Orphanage children (how many?) including Sophie and Orphanage Lady are in a class.
They are situated on the left side of the stage. The children are sitting down on the floor and the Orphanage Lady closes her book- its after their reading lesson.
Orphanage Lady: Ok, children, you may go off to the playground now…
Children: Yay!
Children start running off to the right side of the stage.
Orphanage Lady: ...and be careful, don’t push around. I’ll be back with some lemonade.
Orphanage Lady exits.
Children are sitting down, playing mainly hand games.
Sophie is playing a teddy bear by herself in a corner.
Bully sees Sophie and smiles before making his way towards her.
Bully snatches the teddy bear.
Sophie: (indignant and angry) Hey! Give that back!
Bully holds teddy bear high up in the air and makes taunting sounds e.g. “nananipupu”
Sophie: Hmph! (turns away, back facing Bully)
Bully: Hah! Got your teddy now. Aren’t you crying? Like you did when you first came to this place? Ha! You were such a crybaby then. Oh wait, you still are one!
Bully laughs.
Sophie gives stern, warning look that forebodes that something is about to happen.Light dims.
Orphanage Lady speaks from backstage.
Orphanage Lady: Bedtime everybody!
Kids are sleeping on the floor in neat rows.
Spotlight on Sophie and Bully.
Sophie sits up and puts her hand on her forehead, and looks at Bully, appearing to be concentrating at something, then she smiles at the audience, before lying back down again.
Light changes in the background to show that her powers are activated.
Bully starts to turn in his sleep, starts to have fits, and starts screaming.
Bully: Ah! Help me! Help! Somebody help! (sharp intake of breath)
Bully wakes up wide awake, eyes as big as round tennis balls, in fear.
Bully: Whew, it’s just a nightmare. (sighs with relief and lies back down again)
Light dims. Everyone offstage.
Sophie’s voice in mike.
Sophie: This is what I can do. This ability to manipulate dreams has also caused my parent’s deaths. They too, could do the same and a mafia leader wanted them badly. But… they refused and so, they paid the price.
Scene 3: Sophie meets RHM and Daughter
Sophie: Ma’am, I’ll be out for a bit. Will that be alright? I’ll be back by six sharp.
Orphanage Lady: That’ll be just fine, but make it five?
Sophie: Yes ma’am.Sophie: That’s the worst excuse I’ve come up with. I think I just need some fresh air from the stuffy confines of the orphanage. Life sort of gets dull in there, you know. The neighbourhood is pretty, but nothing interesting. Down the road is more houses and only a pub and a couple of shops.
As Sophie looks, a postman is leaving and she notices the letter left on the ground.
Sophie: To the pub? Could deliver it, since it’s just here…
Swinging open the door, Sophie receives stares from the lady at the counter. Nonetheless she walks up and struggles to get herself up on the seat, before shoving the letter in front. She glances to the two people beside her for moments, who are the RHM and Daughter.
(Some lines for them perhaps, I don’t know really)
Bartender: Hey, you shouldn’t still be here! Thanks for the letter but off you go now!Sophie tugs at RHM’s shirt/clothes/etc.
RHM: Oh, erm, she’s with us.
Hurriedly, RHM and Daughter exits with Sophie being dragged along. Once outside, RHM bends down to talk to Sophie.
RHM: Look, I don’t know who you are, and little kids like you shouldn’t be running around out in the open when it’s so late. So turn your little head and head home, okay?
Daughter: Go on, head on home. What’s a little kid doing here, seriously…
Sophie nods, but she continues to stare at them for a moment. Her eyes seem to twinkle for a moment.
Lights dim, fade out.
Sophie: I’m sure of it. They are the same people. They killed my parents. They haven’t changed one bit, have they? That scar he has, it gives him away. Everything will be easier now. All I have to do is to get closer to them. Even if it’s slowly, I can and I will.

Sophie: Just need to try…
She concentrates for a moment, and elsewhere both RHM and Daughter twitch and start talking in their sleep, cries of help perhaps?
Sophie: It might have worked. I’m not sure. Slowly, just slowly.
Scene 4: Climax
All characters appear in dreamland. Mafia Leader in a room, Daughter and RHM outside.
Daughter: You’re late.
RHM: Sorry, boss went to sleep late.
Daughter: Cut the crap, let’s get to work. You know the plan.
RHM opens the door without a sound. RHM and Daughter gets ready and takes out weapons. Mafia Leader turns and mumbles.
Daughter: Be as quiet as possible! We must not wake him up yet! Remember the mission. We have a task to complete.
Finish their preparation. Under the control of Sophie, RHM impulsively places the barrel of gun to Mafia Leader’s head.
Mafia Leader: (groggily) What…what’s going on?
Evil laughter from Daughter and RHM. Mafia Leader after realising what’s happening, grabs his gun form his ankle and they fight.
Scene 5: Ending
Bodyguard: (Steps forward) Sir. (wait) Sir, the leader of ____ will be arriving in half hour's time. Please be prepared. (wait) Sir? (shrug him gently) Please wake up, it's near noon. (shrug him roughly)
Bodyguard calls Mafia Leader awake a few more times, then reaches under his nose with trembling fingers.
Mafia Leader lies on the bed, motionless.
Bodyguard: Men, come here now! Sir-he is not right.
Doubles/Bodyguards, Daughter and RHM rush over to Mafia leader.
RHM: Sir, Sir! (checks if Mafia Leader is alive) Call the ambulance-no shit we can’t-okay, get someone now wait this can’t be it's impossible-
Bodyguard: He is dead.
Sophie walks out slowly from ___ and stands at DSL of stage with a smile on her face. Everyone starts to mourn.
Daughter: Father? Father, what happened?
RHM: Sir, please, wake up, we cannot do without you.
Daughter: What happened to you? Father!
RHM: This is impossible. There was nothing wrong, no medical problem, nothing. He was invincible, he was never wounded before.
Daughter: (facing RHM, demanding) Everything was fine yesterday, my father is not the age to die. He couldn't have just gone away like that, someone must have set him up, someone must have killed him-
RHM: No one predicted this... No one. Pause.
Daughter: Then…why did he die? It’s not right. After dinner last night we...
Sudden revelation.
Daughter and Right-hand man slowly turn to face each other.
RHM: After dinner last night–
Daughter: –I had a dream.
RHM: (pause) And so did I.
Daughter: Of holding a gun…
The stage becomes dull, dark. Everyone looks down on the ground, silent for 5 secs.
Bodyguards, Mafia leader remain in position.Daughter and Right-hand man hold hands, walk to the front, and sit at the edge of the stage.
Daughter and RHM: (Softly, in a trance) What…happened last night? What happened last night? Last night? Last night? What happened? What happened? (Keeps repeating, getting softer)
Sophie: (The story behind everything. Include: I have avenged for my parents death, the part about manipulating…) The next time you have a nightmare, think again. Maybe it's not coincidental. Maybe it wasn't by chance. Maybe you really are, on the edge of death.Because for all you know... It could be me.
Light fades
End Show.
